Vince Parker – Transformation

Vince is the man!…firefighter, coach, and really just an all around great guy. We drove 6 hours to his CrossFit L1 a few weeks ago and we chatted about everything from past relationships to our goals in life…somewhere in those deep conversations we talked nutrition.
I told him if he tracked his macros for two weeks it would change his life. He was already very fit and pretty lean but I knew with just a couple of small tweaks he’d really reach his potential…and I was right! Vince just recently took 2nd place podium at Thunderdome, a CrossFit competition in Fort Myers.
So many people want to make it to the next level but don’t work on the foundation, nutrition. If you are even thinking about going to the next level, you must be tracking your macros.
Let’s add to the mix, Vince is a firefighter with erratic sleep and eats at his firehouse 1 out of every 3 days. Despite his circumstances and initial resistance to the additional effort, he decided to give it a go. Here’s his results.
Transformation Interview with Vince Parker
When did you start Flexible Eating & how did you get started?
I got started to being committed to a healthier lifestyle the last nutrition challenge that was held at my box in January of 2018. I started at 196 lbs. After sticking to that and getting great results aesthetically and performance-wise I decided to keep things up for a while. I started macros but never weighed my food. I would “eye-ball” my food and estimate it’s weight. After Jason chewed my ear off for 6 hours on our way to Jacksonville, I decided to see what kind of a difference making a serious commitment to macros would make.
What prompted you to get started?
I was sick of not looking how I wanted to. I wanted better results and after years of resistance I realized that cleaning up my eating and also making sure I was eating enough, was the only way to do it. Working out alone was not enough.
How much weight have you lost/gained (depending on goals)?
Since doing my macros to the T, I’ve lost 3 pounds. But those 3 pounds were the last bit I needed to achieve my goals appearance and performance. Since January 2018, I’m down 19 pounds.
What other changes have you noticed in your body or in general?
All of my pants don’t sit well around the waist and my belts don’t fit either. My performance is through the roof. I have a whole new gear that I never had before. And better yet it’s consistent. For the first time in my life I am 100% proud of my appearance.
What have you learnt from tracking your macros?
How measuring and weighing your food is a must. Guessing will never get you the results you want. There is no way to know the true macronutrient values without weighing and measuring.
What have you enjoyed about your experience with tracking macros?
How it has become second nature. It’s just a part of my life now. My performance and recovery. And having abs is pretty cool too! ?
What’s one piece of advice you would give someone that is just getting started?
Commit and stick to it. It can be tedious, time consuming and inconvenient at first but if you stick to it you will catch a rhythm and it will become habit and second nature soon enough.
